Dear Difference Maker,
I assume that things have changed at least a little for you and your loved ones. We
continue to move cautiously here at SDSU, and I feel that is the correct mentality. We tell
our players “If SDSU Football is going to have a season, it is up to each of us to live by the
rules set forth. Do all you can to symbolically live in a bubble”.The standard is high for all
forms of excellence.
Our program will experience some different schedules based on the NCAA’s
Summer Access Rules. The NCAA truly does an amazing job of taking all the facts and
making great decisions. Summer Access involves two phases. Phase 1, July 13th-July 23rd,
we can require our student-athletes to be back, and we are allowed 8 hours of lifting and
film work. From July 24th – August 6th, the day before fall camp starts, we can spend 20
hours a week with the players. The breakdown is 8 hours of lifting, 6 hours of meetings, and
6 hours of walkthroughs using a ball. I feel this second phase is really because of the loss of
spring ball. We are excited to get the players back and excited to do football. Our biggest
challenge will be social distancing in a sport where there is a ton of contact. I feel we have a
great plan.
If you have contributed to the Difference Maker’s Club for this year, THANK YOU
SO MUCH. We will be using the funds to minimize the impact of many new challenges. If
you have not yet joined, please consider doing so. As always, but more than ever, you will
MAD!
Be Safe & God Bless,
Coach John Stiegelmeier
